“When you’re living in survivor mode, you put up so many walls around you, that it’s not other people holding you back, it's yourself.” These are the words Jessica shared with Brandi as she reflected on how her healing couldn’t begin until she finally owned the trauma she had been through.
Jessica Fitzpatrick has spent the past few years working on her own healing from sexual assault and miscarriage trauma, while helping other women feel encouraged to do the same. “Becoming Jess” is the blog she started to not only tell her story, but to share what the journey truly looks like - the good days AND the bad days. She has found that this is what so many others need to hear to know that they are not alone and they can get better, too.
Healing from trauma is not linear. Jess has good days and bad days. She held in what had happened to her for a long time. Eventually, she realized she was holding herself back by not verbalizing her trauma. Her healing journey truly began the day she told her husband what had happened to her. Therapy, medication, and a CrossFit gym membership have all played integral parts in her journey as well.
